Global Rescue – Early Access Impressions

“Saving the world, one slightly confused firefighter at a time.”
“Saving the world, one slightly confused firefighter at a time.”

Global Rescue hands you the keys to an entire emergency services empire and says, “Go on then, hero, don’t burn the place down.” And somehow, despite your best intentions, you absolutely will.

This Early Access build already lets you command fire crews, police, EMS, and SWAT, which means you’re essentially running the world’s most chaotic group project. One minute you’re dispatching ambulances to a fender‑bender, the next you’re sending SWAT to deal with someone who probably just needed a stern talking‑to. It’s like being the omniscient manager of a very stressed‑out toy town.

You start by designing your base, which feels a bit like furnishing a Sims house, if the Sims were constantly on fire (I mean mine always were......). You’ll place garages, wash bays, break rooms, and toilets, because nothing says “elite rescue operation” like making sure your paramedics have somewhere to pee.

The customization is surprisingly deep. You can decorate your base however you like, which is great until you realise you’ve accidentally built a maze and your firefighters are taking the scenic route to the fire engine.

There are over 20 vehicles already, spanning police, fire, EMS, and SWAT. They’re detailed, shiny, and ready to roll—assuming you remembered to build a fuel station and didn’t park them in a way that requires a 27‑point turn to leave the garage.

You can even add custom skins, so if you’ve ever wanted a neon‑pink SWAT van with flames down the side, congratulations: your moment has arrived.

With over 200 missions, you’ll be dealing with everything from house fires to traffic accidents to “questioning witnesses,” which is code for sending your officers to politely annoy people.

The real‑world map data is a highlight. You can set up shop in your hometown, which means you can finally live out the fantasy of sending a fire engine screaming down the exact street where your neighbour parks like a menace.

For an Early Access title, Global Rescue is already pretty robust. It runs well, has plenty of content, and includes modding support—so expect someone to add a mission where you rescue a cat from a burning Greggs.

There are bugs, of course. Sometimes staff wander around like they’ve forgotten what their job is. Sometimes vehicles behave like they’re auditioning for Fast & Furious: Emergency Services Drift. But nothing game‑breaking, and the devs are patching regularly.

Unfortunately the game uses AI text‑to‑speech for radio chatter, which means every crisis is delivered with the soothing tone of someone reading bedtime stories. “Unit 4, we have a major fire downtown,” the radio says, sounding like it’s recommending chamomile tea.

Global Rescue is already a fun, surprisingly deep emergency‑management sandbox with a lot of personality, some intentional, some emerging from the delightful chaos of simulation games. If you enjoy micromanaging fleets, building bases, and occasionally yelling “WHY ARE YOU WALKING THAT WAY” at your screen, this is absolutely your jam. It’s shaping up nicely, and if the devs keep expanding it, this could become the definitive “I can fix this city” simulator.
