DreamWorks Gabby’s Dollhouse: Ready to Party! Review (Xbox)

As a dad, I know there are two types of children's games. The first are the ones your kids adore but leave you counting down the minutes until they're done. The second are the rare games that genuinely understand their audience while remaining pleasant enough for parents to sit alongside and share the experience. DreamWorks Gabby's Dollhouse: Ready to Party! comfortably falls into the latter category.
My daughter is a huge fan of the show, so seeing Gabby, Pandy Paws, and the rest of the colourful cast brought to life in an interactive adventure immediately grabbed her attention. The game revolves around helping prepare the ultimate party by exploring the various themed rooms and worlds inspired by the series, from

What impressed me most wasn't the complexity of the gameplay, but how approachable everything feels. The controls are simple enough for younger players to understand without constant parental intervention, and objectives are always clear. My daughter was able to explore confidently, collect party items, tackle basic platforming challenges, and enjoy the assortment of mini-games without becoming frustrated. That's an underrated achievement for a game aimed at preschool and early primary school children.
The various mini-games do a decent job of breaking up the exploration. Whether you're crafting, baking, racing, or dancing with the different Gabby Cats, there's enough variety to keep younger players engaged. None of the activities are particularly deep, but they don't need to be. They serve as bite-sized interactive episodes that mirror the educational and creative themes of the television show.

The real highlight in our house was the local co-op mode. Being able to jump in alongside my daughter and control Pandy Paws transformed the experience from something I was simply supervising into something we could genuinely enjoy together. It's a feature more family games should include, and it helped create plenty of shared laughs as we bounced around collecting items and exploring the dollhouse together.
Visually, the game does a fantastic job recreating the bright and cheerful aesthetic of the show. Every area is bursting with colour, and the character models look exactly as fans would expect. The environments are packed with familiar faces and locations, which led to plenty of excited moments from my daughter as she recognised her favourite characters. While parents won't find any graphical showcase here, that's clearly not the goal. The focus is on authenticity, and it succeeds.

That said, older children and adults may find the gameplay repetitive after a few hours. The platforming is extremely forgiving, the challenges are simple, and progression rarely asks much of the player. If you're looking for a family game with layers of depth that everyone can enjoy equally, this isn't it. The experience is firmly aimed at younger Gabby's Dollhouse fans.
But honestly, that's perfectly fine. Ready to Party! knows exactly who it's designed for and rarely strays from that mission. Rather than trying to appeal to everyone, it focuses on delivering a safe, colourful, and engaging playground for children who love the series.
For my daughter, it was a chance to step inside a world she already adores. For me, it was a surprisingly enjoyable way to spend an afternoon gaming together. And at the end of the day, that's exactly what a licensed family game should achieve.
