Review: The Run

The Run is a modern FMV thriller that wastes no time pulling you into its nightmare. What begins as a routine mountain trail run for superstar fitness influencer Zanna Hendricks quickly unravels into a deadly chase through the Italian wilderness. The game blends prestige‑drama cinematography with slasher‑movie urgency, turning every choice you make into a potential lifeline or the reason Zanna doesn’t make it out. With its tight pacing, high production values, and a story that twists around fame, obsession, and survival, The Run positions itself as one of the most polished FMV experiences in years.

This is a pure FMV experience: you’re not here for puzzles or quick‑time events, but for choices, and the game makes those choices matter. With 20 possible deaths and 5 endings, every decision feels like a branching fuse. Some choices are timed, pushing you into instinctive reactions; others let you pause and think, which works brilliantly for streaming or group play.

The pacing is tight, closer to a feature film than a traditional game and the production values are high. The Italian mountain setting is gorgeous, the cinematography is clean, and the tension rarely dips. It’s the kind of FMV where you lean forward without realising it.

The cast is stacked with recognisable talent including Roxanne McKee, George Blagden, Jamie Ward and they deliver grounded, believable performances that keep the story anchored even when the stakes get wild. Cameos from Italian cinema icons like Dario Argento and Franco Nero are a fun bonus.

Paul Raschid’s direction is confident; he’s one of the most prolific FMV creators working today, and it shows. Scenes flow naturally, choices slot cleanly into the narrative, and the whole experience feels cohesive rather than stitched together.

The core loop is simple:

Watch scene → Make choice → Watch consequences → Branch story

The Story Map is a standout feature, letting you track unlocked branches and revisit paths without replaying the entire game. With around 3 hours of filmed content, there’s plenty to explore if you enjoy hunting down alternate outcomes.

Timed vs. Paused modes give you flexibility depending on whether you want pressure or a more social, “pass the controller” vibe.

The Run follows Zanna Hendricks, a globally famous fitness influencer who heads into the Italian mountains for what should be a celebratory morning trail run. She’s at the peak of her career, riding a wave of success, sponsorships, and public adoration.

Then everything goes violently sideways.

What begins as a peaceful run turns into a fight for survival when Zanna realises she’s being hunted. Masked attackers stalk her through the forest, forcing her to make split‑second decisions that determine whether she escapes, hides, fights back, or dies.

The game unfolds like a slasher‑thriller, but with a modern twist: Zanna’s fame, her online presence, and her carefully curated public image all play into the danger she’s in. The story gradually reveals that this isn’t random, someone has a plan, and Zanna’s past choices (both personal and professional) have put her in the crosshairs.

This is a horror‑thriller, and it doesn’t shy away from violence. Depending on your decisions, you’ll see a fair amount of gore and brutality. It’s never exploitative, but it’s definitely intense. Some routes lean into conspiracy, others into personal betrayal, and some into pure survival horror. The game’s 20+ death scenes aren’t just shock value either, they reveal different angles of the story depending on how and why Zanna dies.

 Pros

  • Strong performances that elevate the tension

  • High production value for an FMV title

  • Meaningful choices with real consequences

  • Multiple endings & deaths encourage replay

  • Great pacing—no filler, no sagging middle

  • Story Map makes exploring branches satisfying

  • Beautiful location cinematography

Cons

  • Short runtime if you only play once

  • Minimal interactivity beyond choices (expected for FMV, but still worth noting)

  • Some branches end abruptly, depending on your decisions

  • Large install size for a film‑driven game

A slick, engaging FMV thriller that knows exactly what it wants to be. If you enjoy choice‑driven narratives, tense survival stories, or the modern FMV renaissance, The Run is absolutely worth the sprint.
