Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Fatesworn - Mini Review - Xbox

Before I jump into this mini review of the DLC for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, I highly suggest you watch our video review for the base game that we did a few months back:

I was a huge fan of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning when it originally way back in 2012 (can you actually believe its been a decade!?) and I was sad to see it fade in to obscurity due to financial issues at the studio that created it. Now a decade later its back and better than ever thanks to Publisher THQ Nordic and Developer Kaiko! Not only have they done a pretty great job on remastering the original game (including all prior released DLC content), but they have now added a brand new DLC area for you to continue your adventures in!

The Story:

After decades of conflict, the disastrous Crystal War has finally ended, and the Tuatha warlord Gadflow has been defeated. As the people of Amalur’s ravaged Faelands turn their gaze toward a welcome peace and the work of rebuilding, a new threat rises in the west… Beyond icy peaks and impassable cliffs lies the mountainous region of Mithros, an ancient Almain refuge offering new hope to settlers, refugees, and war veterans displaced by the fires of war. It is here that Telogrus, God of Chaos, has emerged to claim his mortal kingdom and tempt the people with promises of freedom from the shackles of Fate. Only one has the power to challenge the will of this risen god: you, the Fateless One.

Features:

  • Set in a completely new environment called Mithros featuring mountains and snowy landscape

  • Face the God of Chaos in 6h+ Main quest with a compelling storyline that concludes the game, featuring new and returning characters

  • "Chaos" as a completely new gameplay mechanic connected to weapons, enemies, rifts, and portals

  • Level cap raised to 50

  • The journey takes you to 2 entirely new dungeon sets

  • Enter Chaos Portals to explore 25 brand new Chaos Realm dungeons strewn across the Fatesworn world and the old world

  • New enemies and variations of existing enemies

  • New crafting items for weapons, gems, potions with new reagents and components

  • 6 new unique armor sets with very special and powerful traits

  • 21 new weapons and shields (9 chaos weapons, 15 unique)

  • New accessories like rings and amulets with powerful traits

  • New music by award-winning composer Grant Kirkhope

  • A new mysterious trader selling equipment lottery boxes, offering a new way to complete rare item sets

  • New twist of fate cards

  • Tons of new sidequests task quests and faction quests to fulfill

  • New villages and cities, with new houses and interiors and much more

As you can see from the list of features added in this DLC there is alot of new content to enjoy and immerse yourself in. While your going to get around 6-8 hours of campaign story to play through, there are tons of new side quests to work through which will easily rack up the hours of playtime too. The new snowy tundra environments look fantastic and the story of the DLC is well written into the original games narrative, giving a decent reason for this new adventure. The new enemies and chaos mechanic also add some extra variety to the game, with some fun powers being unlocked that utilise the chaos to your own advantage. The only downside to the DLC is that you need to have completed the main game games story to be able to access the new content. But once you get there, you're going to have a great time.

TOTAL SCORE:

7.5/10

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Fatesworn was released onto Xbox on 14th December 2021 and priced at £15.74. You can purchase it HERE. The game is playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
