I love video games. I also really love indie games! So welcome to our new monthly feature giving spotlight to a selection of Indie Games!
Below is yet another handful of Indie Games I have had the pleasure of playing this past month. Check out what I thought of them and give them a play this month! Support Indie Devs!
CANTATA: Cantata is a character-driven tactical strategy game that puts you in the middle of a spiritual, pragmatic war for survival. Play as a commanding officer from one of three factions - Machines, Humans or Aliens - and leverage your faction’s unique powers and abilities to slowly expand your hold on this alien world.
This game has absolutely beautiful artwork. It looks fantastic and the colours really pop. The character designs/portraits are superb and I love a good strategy game that lets you slowly uncover the map as you play. The only downside is its small amount of content in its current state.
As this game is still in early access it currently only has the first campaign act (Chapters 1-3) and basic modding, however coming in its phase 1 update will be online multiplayer, skirmish mode and a map generator so you can make your own maps to play through! And that's not all, they have a ton of content planned before it reaches full 1.0 launch including 2 more campaign acts (6 chapters), UI makeover, cutscenes and much more! Whilst it's still very much early in development, Cantata shows a ton of promise! CURRENT EARLY ACCESS SCORE: 6.5/10 (due to small amount of content)

REVERIE KNIGHTS TACTICS:
A turn-based tactical RPG with strategic battles in isometric grids where every decision you make can alter the story and the way you configure the characters. Embark on an expedition to find Lennorien, the long lost elvian city to save your loved ones, while fighting the goblin menace that spread terror across the continent! Lead your party of heroes, each one with distinct, special abilities and skills, allowing you to use multiple battle strategies to defeat your enemies. Discover a fantasy world featuring deep map and scenario exploration in an epic adventure, visual novel style! Craft new items and accessories from the treasures you collect and use them as tactical advantage every time you configure your characters.
Reverie Knights Tactics plays like a simplified strategy game akin to games like X-Com or Final Fantasy Tactics. It features a nice art style, well written characters and a campaign with around 10 hours of story to play through. It does feel like its lacking alot of basic things found in other games of the genre and could use more in depth RPG elements being added.

MONOCHROME RPG EPISODE 1: THE MANICAL MORNING:
In this 1920s cartoon turn-based comedy RPG you'll take to the stage using a variety of toons to entertain foes in your way as you help Otto the shy comedian in their epic quest to...make it to work on time??? Are you ready to joke and laugh your way through a rowdy roommate, buff bees, and big bullies?
Otto, a shy non-binary rabbit-like toon lives in the outskirts of the cartoon city of entertainment, Vaudeville after a terrible accident that crushed their hopes and dreams. Later rumors of dubious happenings have begun spreading across Vaudeville. As Otto wakes up to begin heading to work their morning begins to unfold in a maniacal fashion! I really enjoyed the demo I played for this game. The art style is fantastic and the character designs and the way they move feels just like a classic black and white kids cartoon. The combat is fun and the narrative is enjoyable and humorous. Unfortunately I did encounter a few bugs during my playthrough, but as this is still an early access game i'm hoping they will be rectified prior to full release!

THE TSAR'S SECRET:
Let the noises guide you in The Tsar’s Secret. An isometric 2.5D stealth game about infiltrating the Tsar’s palace. The core mechanic allows you to change between 2 different modes: Tenebris & Silentium. Choose between deafening or blinding the palace guards, but be careful! It will also affect how you see the game.
"When I arrived to Mitrovia I only knew my mission, but I didn’t know that the outcome of The Conflict would depend on me. Only I have the powers that can save my country."
Enjoy a story narrated by Grigori, the main character, with voice over acting. Grigori is a double agent with the mission of stealing classified documents from The Great Conflict. Their nation awaits for him to return, but the palace of Mitrovia is full of guards patrolling the corridors. Thankfully, he knows how to control ancient powers and alter the senses with occultist magic. Will you be able to achieve the undercover mission?
I really enjoyed the demo of this game and look forward to the full release next year. The unique way you can choose between the two different approaches to the levels gives it alot of replay ability, especially with the fast paced aspect of the levels. The game also features some great music (played by the UCM Symphonic Orchestra) and is a great experience to play when wearing headphones! This is definitely a game to keep an eye on!

THE LAST SECRET:
Award winning visual novel adventure. An epic, upbeat tale with challenging and fun puzzles, humorous storyline and quirky characters. Solve the "last secret", save your friends and maybe find true love on the way, too...
You and your friends suddenly discover strange mental abilities. A girl with pink hair seems to be behind it. Join your friends on an epic quest to reveal the "last secret", discover the truth about the world and save your life and the whole earth...
Epic and light-hearted story with lots of puzzles (that mostly can be skipped if you're not into it), the chance for romance (also optional) and 8 good endings. (The romance part works for male and female players, a "rainbow mode" for homosexual players can also be activated.)
I really enjoyed this visual novel game. It had great artwork, was well written and had a very deep story. The game features a ton of content and on top of the standard visual novel dialogue style gameplay there are also multiple puzzle/minigames to playthrough as well! I was also playing an early pre-release build of the game and there will be even more improvements coming before release too! A really solid visual novel that you should check out once it releases in August!
