I Tried the Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch Update on Xbox — And It Finally Clicked

I booted up Veil of the Witch on Xbox expecting to dip in for an hour, just to see what the new updates actually changed. Instead, I ended up sinking most of my evening into it, not because everything is suddenly perfect, but because the game finally feels like it knows what it wants to be.

Here’s how the update played out from the moment I hit “Continue Expedition.”

The biggest surprise was how quickly I got into the action. The new Quick Expeditions mode is exactly what this game needed. Runs used to feel like a commitment, the kind where you check the clock before starting. Now? I can jump in, clear a few fights, make some choices, and actually finish a run before my tea goes cold. It’s the first time the game has felt snappy on Xbox.

The combat hasn’t been reinvented, but the update’s balance tweaks make encounters feel less like random difficulty spikes and more like tactical puzzles. I noticed:

  • Enemy groups are more predictable without being boring

  • Abilities feel better tuned

  • The early game isn’t a slog anymore

It’s still punishing if you misplay, but it’s no longer punishing because the game feels uneven.

I didn’t expect relics to matter this much, but the new Blessed Relics genuinely change how you build a run. In my first updated run, I pulled a relic that used to be a “take it only if you’re desperate” option, except now it had its penalty removed and a bonus effect added. Suddenly it became the backbone of my whole build. It’s the first time I’ve felt like the game was encouraging experimentation instead of punishing it.

Once I finished a run, I tried the new Phantom Arena, and honestly? It’s brilliant.

It’s not a massive mode, but it gives your best builds a place to stretch their legs. Instead of immediately diving into another expedition, I could test my party against curated challenges and see how far I could push them. It’s the first time the game has had anything resembling an endgame loop.

Pros

  • The pacing is dramatically better

  • Relics and abilities feel more expressive

  • Difficulty is fairer without losing bite

  • Phantom Arena gives you something to do after a good run

Cons

  • The UI still feels a bit stiff and dated

  • Some mid‑game encounters can still spike harder than expected

  • Phantom Arena could use more variety long-term

This update didn’t just polish the game but it reshaped it.For the first time, Veil of the Witch feels like a roguelite that respects your time, rewards your creativity, and gives you reasons to come back.

If you bounced off the early version, this is the moment to give it another shot.If you already liked it, the update makes the whole experience smoother, sharper, and more replayable.
