Hello, fellow gamers, Racula here and Lewis and welcome to XPN Gaming.
Now this is different to the usual reviews we both do, we have joined forces to take on the evils of school, yes, because what is more terrifying than an abandoned school right? So together we sat down, and started one of our first collaborations where we came up with the perfect escape plan… SPOILER ALERT! We didn’t pass the test and our ideas were shredded. We failed the final exam. Bossa Games’ newest release “DON’T GET GOT”. Don't Get Got is a multiplayer co-operative horror game of deception for up to eight players. How many survived the gruelling school days, let's find out!

Released Date: 24 January 2024 on
The Premise of Why You Don't Get Got!
You're locked inside a school, with no explanation but I can tell you now we had more eyes on us than one of those final-year examiners. The objective? Find the keys and get out alive before you either lose your sanity or "GET GOT".
Sounds pretty simple right? Well, it didn’t go down that way. In this game, you have to use what you can to your advantage and can either collaborate with other players and work together to get out, or you can use them till they no longer serve your needs.

The School "Experience"
We recruited six of our friends to give this game a go to see what it was like. Not going to lie, as much as we all enjoyed the game with jump scares and had a good laugh along the way, Don't Get Got has multiple technical issues, to say the least. It didn't really explain what you had to do. So, half the time, we were searching around, not knowing where to go, or what to do other than find the codes. Now I have to admit and give credit where credit is due, these issues have since been resolved. Unfortunately, at the time of this review, the patch hadn’t taken place or been updated.
One of the best features we found was the horror elements using the dolls and the red light, green light mechanic. But this also didn’t make you feel safe, because due to your Sanity looking at the dolls for too long dropped them considerably fast and they would still move due to this.
Personally, the mechanic has always been a nightmare for me, the idea of being stalked in a game terrifies me, especially if they get faster or catch them moving slowly closer in the corner of your eye. Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 did this really well with Miss Delight and it reminded me of the setting which also takes place in a school (Lewis).
They were just creepy looking and had a sort of weeping angel effect - if you look at them, they don't move, look away and they come for you. The number of times, everybody jumped when they either came from around a corner or snuck up behind us and “GOT YOU” was unreal. (Racula)
Another cool feature that really added panic was the Sanity meter which we have touched on in this review, one problem I felt was the fact it dropped as quickly as it did made this game a lot harder.
Honestly with the Sanity sabotage turning or deceiving your friends was a dumb move because the more people dead the more dolls come after you. This could be fixed by finding one of the many music boxes scattered around the environment, but beware the dolls don’t care and will use this to their advantage.

The Class is in Session
Now the main issues we found in the game alone were:
The in-game chat didn't work for all of us, and we had to rely on Discord voice chat instead, which kind of ruined the immersion.
A few of us had issues inputting the code to join in a game, we had to restart several times before it worked. For example, if you wanted to play using a controller, you were unable to type out a code to be able to join the server, meaning you would have to end the game entirely by joining with a mouse and keyboard and then reconnecting your controller once you get into the lobby.
There were no control options for the controller or mouse and keyboard, we had to figure out the controls ourselves, which was frustrating, but we picked it up after spamming buttons.
There were no explanations on how to use the scanner you are given at the start, or how or what the decoys do. The scanner acted like a map, you would see different sorts of frequencies in three different colours (Red, Blue and Green). Now we had no idea what these meant if it was a good signal or a bad signal. Investigating further taught us that these were the signals to locate the key cards.
There were in-game mapping systems that utilised actual map layouts on the walls, which also were not the easiest to find or be able to figure out where you were. Especially when locating the safe rooms. You did however get given a flashlight which honestly was helpful, but we felt it ran out so quickly, with no visual queue letting you know when it would recharge.
The objective of “DON’T GET GOT” wasn’t very clear from the get-go, half the time the messages scribbled on the walls such as “find the codes” had us thinking we had to search the walls for numbers, the boxes honestly, we had no idea. It was like being thrown into the deep end with no knowledge like being told you are in a shark tank; you can’t swim and good luck. The over-complication of trying to figure it all out made it less enjoyable until one of us started finding key codes, but even then, we didn't know where the codes went.
You can't see other player's game tags until you are within a certain proximity of them and even then, the writing was too small to see on the player's badges on the characters. We had to start asking what our characters looked like, and that didn’t help because there were doubled-up character models, then due to the voice chat issue everyone was confusing each other saying “It’s me!” but it wasn’t the right person.
Now we know since the update this issue has been resolved with the name tags now showing the player's name above their heads, which we are so much happier with, as we now have some idea who our lookouts are.

Pop Quiz!
Don't get us wrong, we loved the premise of the game and had a lot of fun covering it, but for it being made in December 2024 after only a month in development we had some understanding that it wasn’t going to be a polished experience being in EARLY ACCESS as well.
Nonetheless, we had a laugh playing it, it was a good excuse to get some friends on board and run some games and hope we caught the best jump scare scream cam! The jump scares will get you and that is why I would recommend especially for the price and how different it is from other games like this we have had games like Among Us where you pretend and deceive but this time AI takes over and you rather trust or betray. So can you escape? Can you find the way out? Or will you GET GOT?
Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to take a moment to read this review, your support is always appreciated and means the world to me!
