SEEP are developers who make retro styled video games covering a variety of classic genres. I had previously played their run and gun, arcade inspired shooter “Thunderflash” on Xbox, which easily outperformed my expectations. Now they are back with another game called Cosmos Bit, which draws inspiration from classic metroidvania style games from the 1980s and 1990s.
You play as the heroic space warrior Stella Mironova (no not Samus!) as you explore an alien world filled with excitement and danger with areas filled with monsters, traps and puzzles. As you progress through the various landscapes you will also encounter a variety of bosses you will have to defeat. These are not the hardest and the patterns were all very similar unfortunately which made them seem a little repetitive.

There are purchasable upgrades you can grab from the store including abilities like double jump, bombs and upgrades to your weapon. These can be bought using the crystals that you collect across the levels and give you a reason to go back and forth between areas to get the resources needed for the upgrade you desire.
The game itself features a lovely retro pixel art style that really harks back to the early 1990s and it's High level Synth Wave soundtrack by Jake D. Bind really fits the theme/atmosphere for the game. I liked the variety of monster designs and there is a distinct difference to each areas look (fire, ice, caves, industrial etc) but after finishing the game I find it hard to point out anything that really stood out to my memory.

Overall the game isn't bad and it hits all the right notes, It's just a bit too easy for my liking which removed the challenge found in classics such as Metroid. If you’re an achievement hunter like myself then you will be pleased to know you can get the 1000g completion within 2 hours.
