A Needle In A Haystack: Sorting Game - I Found the Needle. Unfortunately, I Also Found Regret.

I played A Needle In A Haystack: Sorting Game because the premise was so ridiculous I thought it had to be a joke. Surely there would be some clever twist, some hidden layer of depth, some reason beyond "pick up hay until your eyes glaze over." There wasn't.

The entire game feels like someone saw the recent popularity of needle-finding games and rushed to create their own version before the hay settled. Instead of feeling like a fresh take on the concept, it comes across as a budget clone that copied the basic premise but forgot to include the part where the gameplay stays interesting.

The core loop consists of picking up hay, sorting hay, selling hay and then buying upgrades so you can sort even more hay. It's like being trapped in an agricultural pyramid scheme. Every upgrade promises to make the process faster, but all it really does is help you reach the next pile of hay-induced boredom more efficiently.

What surprised me most was how quickly the novelty wore off. Finding a needle in a haystack is meant to be an expression used to describe something impossibly difficult. The game transforms that concept into a full-time occupation and then expects you to be excited about it for hours.

The real problem is that the game arrives in a market that already has other needle-in-a-haystack games competing for attention. When your main selling point can be summarised as "it's the other needle game, but with less polish," you're already fighting an uphill battle.

Community feedback on similar titles has highlighted performance issues, progression concerns and the sense that developers are racing to release near-identical concepts before anyone else. That same feeling hangs over this game from start to finish.

By the end, I wasn't searching for a needle anymore.

I was searching for a reason to keep playing.

Pros:

  • Contains a haystack.

  • Contains a needle.

  • The title is refreshingly honest.

Cons:

  • Turns a joke premise into unpaid farm labour.

  • Feels like a clone chasing a trend rather than building on it.

  • Gameplay depth is measured in millimetres.

  • Made me nostalgic for doing actual chores.

I expected to find a needle in a haystack. Instead, I found one of the easiest negative reviews I've ever written.
