What a name!

Sir Whoopass: Immortal Death is an action-packed, hilarious open-world RPG game developed by the indie game development studio Atomic Elbow and published by Aurora Punks. Released on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 with a PEGI of 16. It was released on August 18, 2022, for PC via Steam, and later released on May 9, 2025, for Xbox and PlayStation. The game can be played solo or co-op (max 4 players) and has a DLC skin pack (Threads of MASS WHOOPERY) on Steam.

Behold... Sir Whoopass!

Presenting to you... The mighty Sir Whoopass. Our Gnome chomping, cheese-collecting, glorious hat-wearing protagonist of the story.

Our heroic knight with a heart of gold and a knack for pure chaos and anarchy! Has managed to create disorder in the world through several astounding and poor lifestyle choices, and must now venture across the world of WeirdWood to set things right.

Step into the slightly dented armour as you play our try-hard knight and embark on a chaotic quest through perilous dungeons filled with flamboyant orcs and magical boners (Skeletons). Along the way, you’ll face hilarious side quests, clever puzzles, and try to evade the relentless IRS -the Immortal Revenue Service- because yes, they really do have all the paperwork!

Watch out for secret areas and well-hidden cheese wheels, and randomly placed chests throughout the land. (or not so randomly placed)

Your ultimate goal? To track down the Legendary Villain-Beating Artifact and give your nemesis, The Immortal the kind of butt whooping that echoes through out time.

What's the gameplay like?

Your quest will take you across the world of Weirdwood, searching high and low as you hike through forests, descend into surprisingly clean sewers, walk through mysterious doors to who-knows-where, and help a damsel in distress get a flamethrower to her grandmother's house to take out those big, bad wolves!

Leap and fly across almost stable stones that float in the sky (because I mean “almost” is good enough, right?) to take down the impenetrable force field surrounding the baddies' not-so-secret lair.

You could even have a good ole dance at the Jolly Barrel Bar with the goblin bard and fix an old arcade game, or maybe have a natter with the rather questionable cat "woof woof"? Or head over to Pimp my protagonist for a quick costume change... because being a hero never looked so erm... good.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for the Blackschmidt. (if you know... you know) Jens will sell you heavy, fast, and ranged weapons to help your enemies see the errors of their ways! Keep checking in for those much-needed upgrades.

Choose your answers wisely.

The game uses a cartoonish art style that suits the comedic tone and vibe of the game, but if you're looking for ultra-realistic, next-gen graphics, this game might not be for you.

Some players ran into performance issues like stuttering and low frame rates when the game was first released (even on rigs that met or exceeded the recommended specs); however, the developers had a look into it and suggested tweaking the graphics settings, including enabling AMD FSR 2, to make things smoother.

I must add that I played the game on my PC, and I found the gameplay to be ok with no technical issues. (Thankfully, because I have no idea what half of that lingo means!)

The sound of sarcasm

On your journey, you are accompanied by the dark-humoured, witty narrator who’s just one step away from a sarcastic breakdown! Voiced by Richard James Browning (fiverr.com/richardvoices), who has done voice acting for games such as Zarokh from Path of Exile 2 and Minecraft: Transformers DLC. He narrates all the voices in the game, apart from the cat. (which is a very questionable cat!)

The game’s soundtrack is a lively mix of techno, disco, rock, and sweeping orchestral tunes. You'll also get a few laughs from the funny lyrics of the goblin bard at the tavern. As you explore, keep your ears open: whenever you’re close to a special object, a playful burst of carnival-style music kicks in, adding a fun and whimsical twist to your adventure.

Experience and accessibility

The game can be played on a keyboard and mouse or a controller. The settings can be changed across gameplay, controls, audio, and visuals to make the game more comfortable for the gamer's needs.

You can select from multiple languages and adjust the audio to your liking, as well as customize the UI and HUD (User Interface and Heads-Up Display, for those like myself who are not familiar with the technical lingo). This allows you to arrange your screen exactly as you want it.

Innovations and Comparisons

Playing this game feels like a nostalgic trip back to MediEvil, where you stepped into the bony boots of Sir Daniel Fortesque to save the kingdom of Gallowmere from an evil sorcerer’s wicked plans. It also draws comparisons to The Elder Scrolls, thanks to its rich RPG mechanics, while its offbeat humor and quirky moments evoke the chaos of Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

My final thoughts

On playing Sir Whoopass, I found the game to be hilarious! The sarcasm of the narrator is top-notch throughout the game, and I found myself in fits of laughter at the many WTF moments I encountered, such as sharks, cats, and the names of certain enemies and loading screens with their fantastic tips to really help you out...

Yes, there were moments I got frustrated because I couldn't bite off enough gnome heads to regenerate health quickly enough, and died numerous times, but I endured and came out with my sword swinging! I really enjoyed the quirky cut scenes and mini-games in the game, but I will let you explore and find those out for yourselves.

P.S. Be warned, take notes of signs! They are there for a reason! (as I quickly found out)
