Return to the sonic roots of survival horror with the Resident Evil™️ (1996) vinyl box set

London, 20th October 2022 –

Look what turned up in the mansion basement…

Capcom and Laced Records have been gestating something very special in a bio-tube, and now it’s ready to unleash: the Resident Evil™ (1996) triple vinyl set.

Pre-orders go live at CEST 3pm/BST 2pm/EDT 9am/PDT 6am, Thursday 20th October 2022.

The Limited Edition set (exclusive to www.lacedrecords.com) boasts a rigid board lift-off lid box with an exclusive Spencer mansion atrium cover, spot gloss game logo and obi strip. Heavyweight ‘brain matter’ colour LPs (grey & red A-side/B-side effect) come in spined inner sleeves. Also included are a 12" art print of THAT Cerberus-through-the-window moment and an Umbrella felt slipmat.

The Standard Edition, which will also be available via third-party retailers, features traditional heavyweight black discs, while the packaging consists of a widespined outer sleeve with Cerberus front cover and obi strip, and three spined inner sleeves.

The Laced team conducted extensive research into track sources; multiple, often conflicting official and fan titles; and track lengths, factoring in things like music loops and gameplay events. Meanwhile, sleeve artist Boris Moncel of Blackmane Design beavered away on terrifying original pieces for this historic release, studying reference points for creatures and locations from a nearly 30-year-old game.

Disc 1 includes the iconic original 1996 soundtrack by Koichi Hiroki, Makoto Tomozawa and Masami Ueda — with a little help from a certain Ludwig van Beethoven. 45 tracks have been painstakingly edited for length, titles confirmed (and in some cases officially newly designated, e.g. “Murder of Crows”) and mastered specially for vinyl.

Discs 2 & 3 are a special treat, constituting a new format release for Resident Evil™ Soundtrack Remix (originally released in Japan in 1996 as Biohazard™ Sound Track Remix.) Makoto Tomozawa’s 34-track album features rearranged versions of music from the game intermingled with dialogue snippets and sound effects to help fans relive the survival horror experience.

The release is Laced Records’ 12th in a much-loved run of Resident Evil™ vinyl sets that began in 2019 with the dual announcement of Resident Evil™ (2002) and Resident Evil 2™ (1998) — and more are planned in future.

The video game series began with the release of Biohazard™ on the Sony PlayStation in Japan on March 22, 1996, coming to the West later that year as Resident Evil. It has gone on to become Capcom’s first series to sell over 100 million copies worldwide, as well as mutating into a truly multimedia IP across merchandise, films & TV, and much more.
