Who remembers the good old days, when a game known as micro machines first came out and you would sit and play for hours either with friends, or against bots. Race around tracks, driving little funny vehicles like tanks, ice cream vans, speed boats and so on, whilst collecting items to sabotage other players so that you could win.
Well this little spooktacular game, that is developed by Madorium Ltd and published by Amplified Games, has very similar traits to micro machines and a bit of prop hunt thrown into the mix.
Gamers from all around the world, let me introduce you to:
Polterguys: Possesion Party
Polterguys: Possession Party is an 1-8 player game, that can be played either:
Online
Shared/Split Screen
Cross-Platform Multiplayer
This review was done on the PC Steam version, but the game is also available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch.
You and your friends are these otherworldly creatures known as “Polterguys” who possess everyday objects such as game controllers, toy robots and cars, cheeseburgers, takeaway boxes and so on and scurry around a whimsical variety of locations. For now, you only get to hose between 2 ghosts:
Iggy - The Pink Ghost
Oggy - The Green ghost
I'm hoping in future updates, more of the little ghosts will become available to chose from.
There is no story for this game, which isn't a bad thing really, the sole aim of the game is simple, for you to be the last one standing, by playing 3 rounds and evading the relentless monster. By utilising the object they have possessed, as well as power-ups, set traps for your rivals and hoping they get caught before you do. This game allows for a range of settings that can offer an entertaining experience for players of all skill levels.
Check out my Haunt
As you load up into Polterguys, players find themselves in a massive room, to run around in, use powers ups and find other household items to switch to. This room will be known as player's haunt and you can customise certain parts of the room to your liking, Such as the portrait above the fire place, a chair, boxes and so on. To customize the place, players need to collect sweets in order to be able to afford to purchase the customizations these are collected by participating in either quickplay or custom games.
Multiplayer Madness
Though I did have fun playing this game by myself, this game is way more fun with friends. As mentioned before, multiplayer can be played either online or couch co-op, with up to 8 players and is absolutely perfect to play with friends and family, including young children. What we quite liked about the multiplayer session, was that you did not necessarily need the whole lobby to be full. You could easily add in bots to your liking, which always makes each level so much more exciting.
The only issue I came across with playing multiplayer either as solo or with friends, was finding other players to play online with. There wasn't really a lot of people playing, so I ended up sticking to custom games with friends and bots and we still had a barrel of laughs regardless.

Keyboard and mouse or controller?
The controls for Polterguys is straight forward, most of the key-binds are shown on the screen and interactable's light up with the key-bind, so nothing possessable is bound to be missed in the game. Personally I chose to play on the controller for this game and I found it really easy to learn the controls and to use as well. This game also provides a tutorial that's fairly in-depth, so it does make things a lot easier and accessible for players of all ages.
Polterguys is spookily amazing
The visual for Polterguys: Possession Party features a cartoonish art style that gives it a quirky charm to a fast-paced, exciting atmosphere. I love the designs for the 10 levels that are equipped with physics-based traps and toys. Each level and item is well-designed, giving the game a realistic yet cartoonish look to the game, which allows for the game to be brought to life. For example, Riptide Reef featured a shark monster if you ventured off into the water, which caught some of us by absolute surprise. The Cursed Chateau 2 features portals that you can jump into to spew you out the other side of the room. Some of the traps can even be used to block other players out, which is quite exciting and very devious at times. The 2 main characters that you play, resemble these round, squishable toys; even the animations for them are so adorable. The game uses an array of lighting with immersive sound effects that add to the exhilarating atmosphere. The visuals are fun and the monster is funny as it looks like a big black blob with daunting red eyes, but it still gets down to the chase.

My Final Thoughts on Polterguys
Overall, I really love Polterguys: Possession Party, it's such a fun little game to play with friends and we had such a good laugh with it. Apart from the small issue of finding other players online to join, I can't find any other faults with this game at all. I'm really looking forward to seeing if any more updates come out for this game and will happily be playing it with friends. I highly recommend this game to anyone, who is looking for a good laugh with friends, family and is just looking for a game to mess around in.
