Monster Rush Survivors (Xbox Series X|S) Review

Monster Rush Survivors wastes no time throwing you into the thick of it. Within seconds you’re carving through crowds, scooping up XP gems, and stacking upgrades until your character becomes a walking fireworks display. The early game is genuinely exciting and the kind of “just one more run” energy that makes this genre so addictive.

The upgrade pool is surprisingly generous. You’re constantly discovering new attacks, modifiers, and synergies, and the game does a great job of making your build feel like it’s evolving every minute. When everything clicks, the screen turns into a neon blender of explosions, ricochets, and swirling projectiles. It’s messy in the best way.

Once the novelty wears off, the cracks start to show. Levels are wide, flat, and directionless, more like open arenas than actual spaces. There are no objectives to chase, no events to break up the pacing, no environmental hazards, no treasure chests, no surprises. You’re essentially running in circles, waiting for the timer to tick down.

The loot system doesn’t help. Rarity tends to overshadow actual item identity, and many upgrades feel interchangeable. Weapons don’t meaningfully change how you play; they mostly tweak numbers. Some gear categories feel undercooked or inconsistent, and the sense of long‑term progression is thin.

Boss encounters, meanwhile, rarely deliver tension. They appear, you unload your build into them, and they melt. It’s satisfying in the moment, but not memorable.

The visuals lean bright and cartoonish, with chunky monsters and clean readability. It’s not stylish, but it’s functional, and the screen remains surprisingly clear even when chaos peaks. Performance on Xbox is smooth, and the game runs without technical hiccups.

At its low price point, the package is accessible, but you can feel the budget in the missing systems and the lack of depth.
