Mini Review: The Artifactory - Where Lootboxes Are Made, Sanity Is Not

The Artifactory feels like someone took the frantic energy of Overcooked, fed it a mana potion, and locked it inside a magical factory that definitely wasn’t built to code. It’s a game about crafting enchanted loot under pressure, but the real joy comes from the way the factory itself seems to be in open rebellion against you. Every shift feels like a comedy of errors waiting to happen, and half the fun is seeing which part of the building will betray you next.
The core gameplay loop is deceptively simple: grab ingredients, craft items, pack them, and ship them out before the whole operation collapses. But the moment you step onto the factory floor, that simplicity dissolves into a kind of joyful chaos. Conveyor belts jam, potion stations catch fire, platforms shift under your feet, and occasionally a cursed portal opens just to keep you humble. It’s the kind of chaos that never feels cruel, just mischievous, like the game is winking at you while it ruins your workflow.

Co‑op is where The Artifactory truly shines. With up to four players, the game becomes a loud, messy, friendship‑testing spectacle. You’ll shout instructions, ignore instructions, accidentally sabotage each other, and then laugh so hard you forget you were supposed to be working. It captures that perfect Overcooked‑style energy where success feels triumphant and failure feels hilarious. Solo play, meanwhile, becomes a surprisingly meditative puzzle‑management experience. Without teammates to trip over, the factory’s chaos becomes something you can tame, at least until the next hazard appears.
Crafting itself is tactile and satisfying, with potions bubbling, metal clanking, and enchantments sparking in ways that make every item feel handmade. Recipes are clear enough to follow but flexible enough to encourage experimentation, and the results are often delightful or occasionally cursed, which is its own kind of delight. The humour running through the game ties everything together, giving the whole experience a playful, self‑aware charm.
The developers have also been steadily updating the game, adding achievements, improving item‑switching, and polishing the experience across platforms. It’s clear they’re paying attention, and that ongoing support helps the game feel alive and well‑tuned.

Pros
Chaotic, hilarious gameplay that never feels punishing
Fantastic co‑op that captures classic Overcooked‑style energy
Satisfying, tactile crafting with great sound and animation
Strong humour and personality throughout
Regular updates and quality‑of‑life improvements
Cons
Some levels can feel overwhelming on first attempts
Occasional visual clutter during peak chaos
Best experienced in co‑op — solo is good, but not as electric

In the end, The Artifactory is a magical factory‑management fever dream, chaotic, charming, and endlessly entertaining. Whether you’re playing alone or screaming with friends, it delivers a blend of strategy, silliness, and spell‑powered mayhem that’s hard not to love. It’s messy in all the right ways and consistently rewarding, even when everything is on fire.
