Gravity Oddity - Review - Xbox

Gravity Oddity is a 2D roguelike action-adventure game developed by Invincible Cat and released on September 13, 2023 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. In Gravity Oddity, you play as a space recruit who must use gravity boots and a teleport gun to rescue your roommate, Gary, who has been kidnapped by the Rio Grande Corporation. With your new sidekick, Newton, you go on a one-man rescue mission to uncover the mysteries of your roommate’s disappearance and what lies beneath the Rio Grande Corporation. As you travel through the galaxy, you'll battle enemies, explore procedurally generated levels, and collect mods to upgrade your weapons and abilities.

The game's core gameplay mechanic is gravity manipulation. Your gravity boots allow you to walk on any surface, regardless of orientation. This opens up a lot of possibilities for traversal and combat. For example, you can walk on the ceiling to avoid traps or flank enemies. You can also use your gravity boots to perform jumps that would be impossible otherwise.

Your teleport gun is another powerful tool. It allows you to teleport short distances, which can be used to get around quickly, dodge attacks, or reposition yourself in combat. You can also use your teleport gun to grab enemies and pull them towards you, which is a great way to set up combos or finish off weakened foes. The game features:

  • 130 mods with crazy synergies to make you feel OP

  • Intense boss battles to keep you on the edge of your seat

  • Ever-changing levels created to challenge and engage you

  • Customize your avatar and your sidekick the way you want with almost 100 cosmetic elements

Gravity Oddity's levels are procedurally generated, so each run is different. This keeps the game fresh and exciting, as you'll never know what to expect next. The levels are also well-designed, with a variety of different obstacles and enemies to keep you on your toes.

One of the things that makes Gravity Oddity stand out from other roguelike games is its sense of humor. The game is full of witty dialogue and funny characters. This helps to keep the game lighthearted and fun, even when you're dying over and over again.

  • Unique gravity manipulation gameplay mechanic

  • Procedurally generated levels for a fresh experience every time

  • Good sense of humor

  • Solid roguelike gameplay

  • Simple graphics

  • Can be difficult at times

  • Some players may find the humor to be too juvenile

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Gravity Oddity. I found the gravity manipulation gameplay to be very unique and fun. You will find a solid roguelike game with unique gameplay mechanics and procedurally generated levels If you're a fan of roguelike games, or if you're looking for a new and challenging game to play, I highly recommend checking out Gravity Oddity.
