Chickens Don’t Fly is one of those tiny, throwaway‑looking Steam curios that turns out to be way more charming than it has any right to be. It’s basically a chaotic, slapstick “falling” game where you guide a doomed chicken through obstacle‑filled vertical shafts, trying to survive long enough to rack up points. Think Doodle Jump, but in reverse, and with a sense of humour that’s very “we know this is stupid, lean into it”.
The fun comes from the physics: your chicken pinballs, flops, ricochets, and occasionally plummets with the grace of a dropped bowling ball. Runs are short, silly, and addictive. You’re always one “okay, but THIS time I’ll thread the gap” away from another go. The game throws in different modes and modifiers to keep things fresh, but the core loop is pure arcade snack food.
Visually, it’s simple but bright, with that mobile‑era cartoon aesthetic that works because the whole thing is built around readability and chaos. The sound effects do a lot of the comedic heavy lifting, every thud, squawk, and splat adds to the slapstick energy.

Pros
Silly, satisfying physics that make every run feel like slapstick chaos
Quick, addictive loop perfect for short bursts
Bright, readable visuals that suit the arcade vibe
Multiple modes to keep the falling fresh
Cons
Very lightweight — not much depth beyond the core loop
Mobile‑game aesthetic may feel dated to some
Runs can blur together once the novelty wears off

Chickens Don’t Fly is exactly the kind of goofy micro‑arcade game you boot up “just for a minute” and then realise you’ve spent half an hour trying to beat your last score. It’s not deep, it’s not complex, and it’s not pretending to be. What it is is a fun, physics‑driven distraction with a good sense of humour and a surprisingly sticky gameplay loop. Great as a palate cleanser between bigger games.
XPN Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (SILVER)
