Bricky To Me - Review - Xbox

Bricky To Me is a 2D puzzle-platformer with some roguelite elements thrown in for good mix from developer IdunaSoft and Publisher QUByte Interactive. You play as a night and his cat as you work your way through a dangerous, ever-changing castle.
The game doesn't present any real kind of plot to speak of. There are 60 different rooms to complete and every time you start a new run, you will work your way through a selection of them in a randomised order. The aim of the game is to get through the rooms to the final boss whilst collecting resources which you can spend in store rooms to replenish health or buy a potion that shrinks you down to enable access to secret areas.

The roguelite aspect comes in to play when you fail your run. If you die by enemy or spikes you will have to restart your run, including losing all of your collected resources. You also have to collect enough blue coins before each checkpoint to enable you to purchase the key to the boss rooms, if you fail to collect enough then you will be have to restart and try again. The cat also adds another interesting mechanic. You are able to trade one of your life hearts and then use the cats special abilities. These abilities include teleportation and also having it guide you to secret passages that could have blue coins inside them. You also have a boomerang that you can use to fight enemies and your able to interact with a variety of switches to effect the rooms. These switches add some extra puzzle elements to the game. These puzzles range from pretty simple to pretty challenging!

The game will take around 2-3 hours to complete depending on your skill level and whilst it is enjoyable, there is a fair bit of repetition to be found. Alot of the rooms felt like mirrors of others, there aren't that many enemy types and the music is just the same track on a constant loop. I would definitely recommend completing the game, but there probably isn't alot of replayability to be found once you have finished it once, but at the low price it's on offer for that's not much of an issue.
Bricky To Me is a fun but challenging platformer with plenty of room to work through to get to the final boss. The controls are solid enough and work well and the 2D pixel graphics hold up nicely. Both casual and more hardcore gamers will find something to enjoy from the mix of platforming and roguelite.
TOTAL SCORE: 7/10
