Startup Company Console Edition - Review - Xbox

Developed by Hovgaard Games, Startup Company is a business simulation sandbox game where you’re the CEO of a new company. Your job is to build your very own website and compete against the largest tech giants on the planet! Originally released on PC back in 2020 it now lands on Xbox with a updated Console Edition, will this console port be a Bill Gates or will it feel more like a Phil Harrison?

The game see's you starting out on the road to become a large tech company, setting up in a small office and adding yourself a desk. The introductory tutorial is nice and detailed and gives you all the knowledge you will need to get yourself through the mass of menus and systems the game provides. As you grow you will need to focus on building up your employee numbers and also ensuring you have a stable set of servers to keep your website running smoothly.

Your employees are a vital part of your success. As you grow, you must continue recruiting more people. Over time, your employees will start demanding more of you and the company. It’s your job to keep them happy, before your competitors send them a job offer they can’t reject! There is alot of offer here, with hours and hours of content to get your teeth stuck into. Visually the game is simple in what it portrays, however it works perfectly well and you cant expect more for a game priced so reasonably. The UI and menus all look clean and run smoothly, I was honestly surprised at how well the game ran whilst using a controller. Usually games of this genre that are ported to console after an initial PC release are normally pretty clunky and the controls are never perfect, but with Startup Company Console Edition they have really taken the effort to make sure it just works as it should! The audio is also nice and calming and fits nicely with the style of game, its nothing special but it's a decent bit of background noise.

Overall Startup Company Console Edition is an enjoyable company management sim for fans of the genre. It has plenty of content, and the console UI works exceptionally well with the deep gameplay on offer. There is alot thrown at you from the get go, so it may be abit off putting to newcomers, but there is a hefty tutorial to help you get your head around it all and put you on the path to business glory! TOTAL SCORE: 7.5/10

Startup Company Console Edition was released onto the Xbox store on the 26th January 2023. It's playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The game is priced at £12.99 and can be purchased HERE. A copy of the game was provided for this review. A huge thanks for that!
